ASIA Games
ASIA games took place during the last week of the Mid Semester holidays.
Over the three days clubs including KAC, HKESA, HKESS, TANSA, AKSA and UMSA participated in 4 sports - Basketball, Indoor Soccer, Badminton, and Dodgeball. KAC was clearly the favourites for taking out the tournament... However... Paul the Octopus said otherwise...
Basketball KAC played some tremendous games and pulled through to the final. Unfortunately we were beaten by AKSA in the final. The AKSA on average had a height and size advantage, however the KAC team still put up a worthy challenge. Ups to the hard yards all the boys put in the final - only losing by a few points.
Indoor Soccer Indoor Soccer saw four main teams shine - this was KAC, UMSA, CSA and HKESA, who were all relatively evenly matched. HKESA, the top seed, beat UMSA in the semi-final, in a tight match which saw HKESA win by penalty shootout after extra time. KAC also went forward into the final after a strong match up against CSA. The final was intense, very tight at the beginning of the match - however KAC was down at half-time, and struggled to catch up. It was a worthy, yet gutting win by HKESA.
Badminton Badminton was a very competitive sport this year at ASIA games. Most clubs entered strong teams, with a wide range of Auckland regional representative. KAC unfortunately came second overall. However, ups to James Wong, Lewis Tang, Martyn Lee, Celina Cheung and Pauline for playing hard in both doubles and singles.
Dodgeball Dodgeball was the final sport. This was the social sport, not counting for any points towards the ASIA tournament. KAC entered 2 teams, which after a few close games, both entered the final. The final was a well enjoyed one, with much (hidden) aggression let out, which also contributed to the smiles of many after the match.
The points were added together, and unfortunately... KAC did not take out ASIA games this year. Congratulations to HKESA for a well deserved win. We'll be back next year - guns blazing! Hiyiyiyiyiyiyi!
